The arrival of the coronavirus greatly changed not only our lives but also access to education. After the announcement of the lockdown, almost all educational institutions closed and the modality of online English classes for children. This not only evidenced the gap in accessibility to technology. Rather, it imposed on us the need to empower and invest in educational innovation in teaching English for children, adapting our English methodology for children.
Our educational project is currently implemented in more than 50 centers across Madrid. Teaching English from 1 to 7 years through play has always been considered. New technologies were part of our agenda to update resources. In this way, we can offer children a tool adapted to the generation in which they were born.
During the Covid-19 health alarm, new sanitary measures emerged. This streamlined the process to implement online classes in English as a teaching space. During the first few weeks we worked on the educational innovation digitizing the project. Teacher training, communication with families and we established test sessions to ensure continuity in learning. We reinvent ourselves and adjust to the new reality to continue with our English classes for children. In this process, we noticed that the multimedia space offered novel tools to bring children closer to English in a fun and dynamic way.
The objective was to ensure that children did not lose their learning pace. They had a certain level acquired in our academy. For this reason, we established educational and recreational sessions suitable for each stage of childhood. Estas online classes in English were designed to capture the child's attention, with respect for their age and in small groups. There are 5 weekly meetings of 20 minutes with a teacher with experience and training in early childhood education. In these virtual sessions, children learn phonetics and vocabulary in English naturally through play.
The response from the children was so favorable that Great Little People decided to extend our educational project to learn English while playing during the summer. With the same methodology and with innovative and original teaching material, we will present our space of Summer Digital Camp. Each week will have its own special theme. It will have spaces of 20 minutes and small groups, we will offer a space of English language acquisition for children adapted to each age.
The new educational reality presented us with a challenge that had a very good response. This is why, looking to the future, we will continue to develop e-teaching techniques adapted and designed by specialists in early childhood education. At the same time, we already have our own virtual platform. We are working on developing an application for our English teaching methodology. Before and after this new reality, the heart of this project has always been the children.
They are the future. This new reality of COVID 19 made us see the world through their eyes. Learn naturally. Incorporate new skills while playing and above all, have fun in the process.
