By Great Little People
February 6, 2024

Each English language school class for children from 1 to 7 years old is planned, designed and thought out taking into account the developmental stages of each age. This planning requires the active participation of teachers specialized in childhood and experts in learning the English language. One of the themes of the summer was the trip to the mountains. In this way, the children crossed the various “corners” learning and imagining that they are climbing the mountain.

Examples of English for children

Our methodology in English for children, designed in “corners”, it allows each learning space to be concrete and delimited. perfect so that the acquisition in a progressive, dynamic and natural way. Classroom time is an active space in which the child walks through spacious 30-meter classrooms to change space and renew energy. Focus on each material and enter the new learning space where you will incorporate new competencies. We note that this methodology significantly favors the acquisition of vocabulary. In this article, we want to tell you how we think about immersion in English while playing in a natural environment. Thus, mountain climbing was an opportunity to learn about aspects of geography. The ecosystem, the different animals that live in it, packing your bags and a checklist with everything you need for this imaginary trip.

In the Phonics Corner, children practice phonetic skills.

This is achieved thanks to the blending technique. At Great Little People, after years of experience in English classes for children from 1 to 7 years old, we noticed that this technique is extremely valuable for the acquisition of pronunciation. Children can separate phonemes, differentiate them and understand how, together, they form a new word.

There was also space for reading in the Reading Corner. The children have fun with the story by Michel Rosen and Helen Oxenbury about the search for a bear. Una Reading in English for children highly recommended because of its rhyme designed to be sung. The story tells of a journey where a father, four children and a dog cross different geographical spaces and different sensory experiences. There is wet mud, a cold river, a storm and, of course, tall grass in the mountain. The tour is an opportunity to generate expectations until you reach the bear. They plan to take the biggest one and do it without fear, but will they succeed? This question keeps the child in suspense, surprised and expectant.

A teaching activity is practiced in each corner

In the Let's Eat Corner, we planned a meal. We made a bear mountain. This activity incorporates vocabulary in English linked to the diet and hygiene routine. In addition, interaction in English is encouraged as the child asks for the ingredients, shows them and incorporates them to create their own recipe.

On the other hand, in the Active Corner the children did yoga stretches. This not only contributes to the knowledge of the parts of the body in English, but it also contributes to the personal self-care routine. This time, the yoga positions had to do with contact with nature. Stretches in the sun, the shape of the mountains, the different positions of the animals, the deep breathing of fresh air.

To all of the above is added the greeting routine at the beginning and at the end. Upon arrival, in the Starting Corner, the child can express how he feels. How is the day going and of course, say hello to your classmates. This dynamic separation of spaces allows the child to enter the classroom in a natural and progressive way. In addition, this way, you can feel interest and maintain your expectations about the different pedagogical and recreational activities of each meeting. The moment of immersion is a fun time that progressively contributes to the learning of English for children from 1 to 7 years old in a carefully planned manner by the specialists of Great Little People.

This example shows that dynamic and fun face-to-face classes are only the visible side of a much larger project that involves the creation of music in English, teaching material and the planning of games in English for children online inside and outside the classroom. For example, both the techniques of Blending as all vocabulary related to nature and mountains is constantly updated in our Youtube channel.
